What’s the difference between the Foundations Camp + the Development Camp?

Simply put – age, duration + experience level.

Foundations: Strength + Conditioning is an extension of our Foundations class, and is built for ages 8 to 12 year olds. This camp introduces young athletes to strength, speed + conditioning, along with recovery techniques that support long-term athletic development. Throughout the day, athletes spend time with our ESP coaches learning movement fundamentals, building confidence + having fun in an encouraging environment.

Development: Strength + Conditioning is a 4-day training camp for ages 13–18 and designed for athletes ready for a more focused training experience. With an increased emphasis on strength, speed + conditioning, athletes will also practice recovery techniques and mental performance strategies to help prepare both body + mind for higher levels of sport and training.

Both camps include:
45-min SPEED (15 min rest)
45-min STRENGTH (30 minute rest + nutrition, provided by JustFit Kitchen)
45-min YOGA/MENTAL PERFORMANCE

Do you offer outdoor workouts in the summer?

Yes! Every Saturday at 9:30AM at The Citadel track (Wilson Field), beginning 05/23.

This hour long speed + agility specific training session is for ages 12 – 18. Free for ESP members, $10 drop-in for guests. Bring your friends!

Where can I park?

Parking is available in the paved lot between ESP and The Daily, as well as the gravel lot (under the overpass) on the other side of ESP.

Do I need the ESP app?

Yes. Our ESP app is your go-to for booking classes and staying updated on all important events.

What should athletes wear or bring?

Athletes should wear clothing they can comfortably work out in. They can bring a water bottle (we have two water fountains), and we have water and food by JustFit Kitchen for purchase. A locker room is available for storing personal items.

What happens if my athlete misses a session?

If an athlete misses a class or cancels within 4 hours, we have a $15 late cancellation fee. If they miss a training session, it is up to them to reach out to their personal trainer to reschedule.

How do you communicate progress to parents?

We track progress through baseline evaluations when an athlete starts, measuring speed, change of direction, jump height and strength. Athletes are re-tested each trimester so families can see measurable improvements and athletes stay motivated.

Do you work with injured or returning-from-injury athletes?

Yes. We partner with Made 2 Move Physical Therapy, who work in our facility daily. From early rehab to return-to-play, ESP and M2M collaborate to help athletes recover safely and come back stronger. Injured athletes continue training through our Injury Reserve program with modified, ability-specific programming.

How often should my Athlete take class or train?

Training frequency depends on your athlete’s schedule. During the season, once per week is effective for maintaining, and often improving, performance. In the off-season, training 3–4 times per week allows for faster progress and better preparation for the next season.

What is your coaching philosophy?

It’s everything. Effective coaching is at the heart of every athlete’s success. And it isn’t just at the facility or about teaching technique it’s about being a mentor in all aspects of life. We are invested – time, energy and care – in our athletes and we intend to be both a resource and an outlet. We will be that person.

What does the facility offer?

Our facility is just over 10,000 square feet, with 7,000 square feet dedicated to training space. We feature a 25-yard turf lane designed for movement training, sprinting, and plyometric work.

On the strength side, the gym is equipped with 8 full squat racks, along with a full range of dumbbells, kettlebells, and medicine balls to support comprehensive strength development. We also offer a variety of cardio equipment and specialty training tools, including Keiser machines.

Beyond training, athletes have access to a dedicated recovery area and private space to meet with physical therapists, sports nutritionists, and a mental performance coach, supporting a well-rounded, high-performance environment.

Can I drop in and use the facility?

Yes. If you are a collegiate or professional athlete living in or visiting Charleston, we offer single-day drop-in passes for open gym / facility use. We also offer drop-in classes, pending availability and age group.

Can I rent out ESP?

Yes! We have two facility rental options:

Partial Facility Rental: Designed for teams or coaches who want focused use of specific training zones. Partial rentals offer reserved access to select areas of the facility for 60, 90, or 120 minutes.

• Accommodates up to 20 athletes
• Dedicated training area
• Flexible use for strength, conditioning, or movement sessions

Full Facility Rental: Designed for teams, organizations or coaches who want exclusive use of the space. Full facility rentals provide private access to the entire facility for 60, 90, or 120 minutes, allowing complete freedom of movement and programming.

• Accommodates up to 40 athletes

My 12-yr old is not involved in organized sports. Is ESP for them?

Yes! We view every child as an athlete, whether they are involved or interested in organized sports.  The most important thing to us is that they are here for a purpose: to get better!

I’m a collegiate athlete with my own training program. Can I use ESP

Yes. We currently have an Open Gym membership ($150/mo.) for current college athletes that allows unlimited ESP Open Gym access during our operating hours.

Can teams train at ESP?

Yes. We are the proud home of multiple professional teams, such as our SC Stingrays and Charleston Battery, as well as local sports teams such as Charleston Lacrosse, Pack Athletics Cheer and CT Development.

What’s the difference between Foundations and Development?

Foundations and Development are our two youth training programs, organized by age group. While both focus on the same core athletic traits, the approach and emphasis evolve with the athlete.

Foundations focuses on teaching the fundamentals of movement – coordination, balance, body control, and acceleration.

Development builds on those fundamentals with a greater emphasis on strength, speed, and power.

Workouts in both programs are tailored to the age and ability of each athlete, ensuring everyone is appropriately challenged and continues to improve in a safe, structured environment.

What age groups do you work with?

We train athletes ages 8–18, as well as collegiate and professional athletes. Programs are tailored to the athlete’s age, experience, and developmental stage to ensure safe, effective, and purposeful training.

What are your class times?

Monday – Thursday: 4:00 PM, 5:15 PM + 6:30 PM
Friday: 4:00 PM
Saturday: 9:30 AM + 11:00 AM

How long are classes?

60 minutes

How many Athletes train in a class?

Foundations: 6 Athletes
The smaller group size (6 athletes) allows for more individualized attention, ensuring each athlete develops proper technique and builds a strong foundation.

Development: 8 Athletes
Slightly larger groups (8 athletes) allow athletes to train with peers at a similar skill level while still receiving guidance to push their development further.

Can my athlete start with a trial?

Yes. We offer a one-week trial for classes so athletes can experience our coaching and space before committing. Please reach out to us for intro personal training options.

What are your membership options?

We offer 2 class memberships:

Silver: 4 classes per month
The Silver membership is great for athletes who may be in-season, with busy practice schedules but are still interested in maintaining and progressing in their athletic abilities.

Gold: unlimited classes per month
The Gold membership is geared towards athletes who might be in their off season, have more availability to train or generally looking to make a major push towards improving the traits that go into making all athletes better.

All memberships are recurring, with a 14 day cancellation notice using this form.

Is a membership required for personal training?

You do not need a membership for personal training. Training sessions are conducted outside of class time by our ESP trainers and purchased in packages of 2, 4 or 8 sessions.

Do you offer short-term or seasonal options?

Memberships run in 30-day cycles (with autopay and a 14-day cancellation notice). If you’re a student athlete on break or a local in between school schedules, reach out to us for options!
